The subject of the following memoir, Jacob Persinger, was born in Virginia about the year 1735. When an infant he was captured by the Shawnee Indians and carried to Old Chillicothe, in the State of Ohio, with thirty other children. The squaw who adopted him had two sons. She took great pains to rear them according to Indian usage. Never expecting to give up the white child, she raised him as her own sons.
